Lucifer is going to be ending with the upcoming Season 6, which makes us sad, but happily, we will be getting answers to that heavenly cliffhanger sooner than expected. For those of you who could.

The sixth and final season of Lucifer, the Netflix adaptation of the DCTV character originated in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, will release next month. With the show coming to a close, it’s time to examine what we know about this final season and speculate a little on what the information we have could mean for the characters fans have come to love.

Despite the fact that Lucifer started as a FOX property – airing the first three seasons there, the entirety of the show is now available to stream on Netflix, which has been the home of the past three seasons of the show. Originally slated to end with season 5, the show received a surprise renewal just as the cast was getting ready to film the final episode – which ended up serving as the season 5 finale, titled “A Chance at a Happy Ending.” Season six, according to showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Mojo, is the exact ending they’d always planned, just expanded to fit ten episodes, instead of just a series-ending montage. Considering the name of the last two episodes, it sounds like fans are in for an emotional rollercoaster to end the show.

Netflix has confirmed the sixth and final season of Lucifer will release on the streaming giant on September 10th. All 10 episodes of season 6 will be available to stream in its entirety. The names for all ten episodes of season six have also been announced:

  • Episode 601: Nothing Ever Changes Around Here
  • Episode 602: Buckets of Baggage
  • Episode 603: Yabba Dabba Do Me
  • Episode 604: Pin the Tail on the Baddie
  • Episode 605: The Murder of Lucifer Morningstar
  • Episode 606: A Lot Dirtier Than That
  • Episode 607 – My Best Fiend
  • Episode 608 – Save the Devil, Save the World
  • Episode 609 – Goodbye, Lucifer
  • Episode 610 – Partners ‘Til the End

Lucifer season 6 will have the same familiar faces fans have gotten used to, as well as a few new additions. Back to reprise their roles are, of course, Tom Ellis as Lucifer himself, Lauren German as Chloe, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Maze, Rachael Harris as Linda Martin, Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez, D.B Woodside as Amenadiel, Scarlett Estevez as Trixie Espinoza, and yes, Kevin Alejandro as Dan Espinoza. The last name on this list might come as a surprise to fans, as Kevin Alejandro’s Dan was brutally murdered in episode 15 of season 5, “Is This Really How It's Going to End?!” and was confirmed to be in Hell by Amenadiel. However, it seems that, as expected, Hell isn’t really where Dan belongs, and fans will at least see him find a way to get over his guilt and make it into Heaven after death. Very The Good Place of Lucifer, and very much welcome.

Joining them in season 6 are Inbar Lavi as Eve, yes, that Eve, also Maze’s girlfriend, Scott Porter as Carol Corbett, Dan’s friend who was introduced at the end of season 5, Merrin Dungey as Sonya, a cop who forms a bond with Amenadiel, and Brianna Hildebrand, making her debut as yet another angel – Rory. We know very little about how much these characters will appear or how much importance they'll have in the final season, but fans have speculated Rory could actually be one of Lucifer's long-lost siblings - it's unlikely we've met all of them - and that Porter will turn out to be not just Ella's next love interest, but her perfect match.

The synopsis for season 6 reads as follows:

This is it, the final season of Lucifer. For real this time. The devil himself has become God… almost. Why is he hesitating? And as the world starts to unravel without a God, what will he do in response? Join us as we say a bittersweet goodbye to Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, Linda, Ella and Dan. Bring tissues.

Last season saw Lucifer fighting with his own demons to fully commit to his relationship with Chloe. It also found him fighting with his siblings for the ultimate prize and responsibility, to become God. But now that Lucifer is God, and now that he’s in a stable relationship with the love of his life – something he’s admitted to himself and to her – where does the story go? And how can the story of the fallen son turned ruler of hell, who became a police consultant, learned to understand humanity, and to love, only to them ascend to the throne of God, end in a satisfying way? Lucifer season 6 is the showrunner’s chance to expand on their already chosen ending, and with Chloe and Lucifer out of the police force, abandon the procedural nature the show has depended on for five seasons, as it moves towards closure.

There's no way to know exactly what that closure looks like, or what a “fitting goodbye” would be for these characters, but the fact that season 6 will focus more on the core cast and not on cases already bodes well for the last few episodes. After all, fans still need some closure on Ella’s romantic future – presumably with Carol Corbett, just as the show needs to show her dealing with her issues regarding that serial killer ex, Pete. They also need to fix Dan’s Hell issue, stat. Plus, there's also at least one pending serious conversation between Lucifer and Trixie about his abandonment, some happiness for Maze and Eve, and of course, a lot of Deckerstar. Not a short list, but if there’s anything Lucifer has, at this point, it’s time to make everyone happy.

Lucifer has returned for his fourth season exclusively on Netflix but if you’re looking to rewatch the first three seasons, you may not be able to do so. Here’s why season 1 to 3 of Lucifer isn’t on Netflix in some Netflix regions.

Lucifer All Season Download

Just to catch you up in case you’ve been living under a rock, Lucifer was a FOX show before it was canceled last year by FOX. After a massive fan campaign, it was then revived by Netflix last summer. We’ve slowly been getting new details about season 4 of Lucifer over the past few months and as of the time of updating, the series now has its trailer and is scheduled to release on May 8th.

Season

Despite Netflix picking up the show and subsequently getting all three previous seasons in the United States and Canada, that’s yet to replicate in the United Kingdom and in other regions.

As of the time of publishing, Amazon still owns the rights to seasons 1-3 in the United Kingdom. This is not expected to change leading up to the release of Lucifer on Netflix.

Now that season 4 is released, the only way you can watch the first three seasons is through Amazon who is still actively promoting the show as a Prime Exclusive.

Lucifer is only a Netflix Original from season 4

One important note about the series too is that Netflix doesn’t include it as a “global original”. Instead, it lists the series on its media site as a “first-run” original.

This usually implies that there are existing contracts elsewhere and that’s certainly the case with season 1-3. A good example is Better Call Saul where that’s considered “first run non-US”.

Tom Ellis who stars in Lucifer in the lead role was consistently asked a regarding its release on Netflix in the UK and answered with:

Ok people asking in UK #Luciferseason 4 will premiere next year on @NetflixUK and season 1-3 will also become available but until then you can still watch it on @AmazonUK 🇬🇧😈

That strongly suggests that it’s on the way to Netflix UK but given how close we are to the release of season 4, it’s likely going to be the case you’ll need to catch up using Amazon first.

Overall, we’re still waiting for something official from Netflix but all of the United Kingdom Netflix accounts on all social media have yet to mention the series at all. In the same spirit, Amazon Prime hasn’t mentioned the show since early 2018.

Will you be watching the earlier seasons on Amazon before Lucifer season 4 comes to Netflix UK? Let us know in the comments.
